At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Canadian Council of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama'ah (CCAS) joined forces with the Muslim Food Bank (Vancouver) and IMO of Rexdale, Ontario to address poverty in our immediate community and in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
A survey by CCAS has shown that, at a minimum 55% of our neighbours and friends have been adversely affected economically by COVID-19. Many of them have either lost their jobs or their incomes have been reduced by more than half. This has made it difficult for so many working class families amongst us to put food on the table. Consequently, the Table of Mercy Food Bank was initiated as a collaboration by the three organizations and the distribution of food hampers has been in progress at the International Muslim Organization mosque in Rexdale, ON since mid April 2020.
In the first three months of operation, more that 1500 hampers of basic food items such as rice, flour, pasta, cooking oil, toiletries, etc have been distributed to local families of all ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Table of Mercy is thankful for the generous support the community at large has shown. Its success would not have been realized so quickly had it not been for the kindness of so many donors who came forward with monetary and food donations since the inception of the program. We thank all of our donors and volunteers who have shown their care and compassion for the less fortunate members of our community and we sincerely pray that Allah extends His Kindness and Mercy in return to them all.
Food is usually collected on Saturdays and distributed on Sundays during specific timings. Please call the numbers on the poster below to confirm which weekends these activities occur on.

Thanks to Imam Habeeb Alli, Br. Yousuf Syed, Br. Omar Farouk and Br. Mahamed Khan for their leadership and the support of The Lions Club, one of our community partners. This program bears testimony to the fact how easily we can make a difference when leadership, organizations and individuals work together in the interest of the community. Many good things happen and we are all thankful for these opportunities.
